User preferences
The user can set preferences on the two panels in the preferences dialog box. Settings persist in subsequent calculations.
To open the preferences dialog box:
◆ Do any of the following:
- On the PhasePlot menu, click Preferences.
- Click the shortcut button in the lower righthand corner.
- Click the shortcut button under Plotting options.
To reset preferences to default settings:
- Open the preferences dialog box..
- Click the Advanced panel tab.
- Click .
General panel
- Calculation database - Popup menu to choose the thermodynamic database for the calculation. Options are:
- MELTS (Ghiorso and Sack, 1995). Appropriate for natural magmatic systems in the pressure range 0-3 GPa.
- pMELTS (Ghiorso et al., 2001). Appropriate for magmatic systems of mantle-like bulk composition in the range 1-4 GPa.
- Stixrude & Lithgow-Bertelloni (2011). Appropriate for shallow to deep mantle calculations in the simple system SiO2-Al2O3-FeO-MgO-CaO-Na2O, 5-130 GPa.
- MELTS (Ghiorso and Sack, 1995). Appropriate for natural magmatic systems in the pressure range 0-3 GPa.
- Display dialog on startup - Select to display startup dialog on PhasePlot launch.
- Phase abundance display diagrams
- Dim phase abundance graph when results are non-optimal - Select to dim grid cells whose results have errors (shown also with red dot indicators).
- Display visual indicators of calculation status - Select to show visual indicators (color-coded dots) on grid cells, indicating status of results.
- Contour diagrams
- Show continuous density contour plots - Select to show continuous density contour plots, instead of traditional contour plots, in the grid overlay.
- Color for maximum value on density contour plots - Click the color box and select a color for maximum value.
- Color for minimum value on density contour plots - Click the color box and select a color for minimum value.
Advanced panel
- Turn on debugging information, Debugging options - Triggers debugging and other informative output for the checked features and levels. This output is directed to the system console log.
- Algorithmic options - Flags to alter the default computational algorithm. If an error message is displayed for a given cell in the computational grid, adjusting these algorithmic options may improve results. Consult Status messages.
- Algorithmic parameters - Convergence parameters for the numerical algorithms. You can adjust these parameters in response to error message conditions describing a convergence failure for a grid cell. Consult Status messages.
- Default parameters and grid layout - Restores default algorithmic options and parameters.
